Accused 'sent sex message to teenager'

By Nevin Farrell

A man from Co Londonderry charged with communicating with a boy aged under 16 for the purpose of his own sexual gratification has had his case sent to Antrim Crown Court.

Robert Derek McGrory (58), of Ardmore Drive in Portstewart, was in the dock at Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday.

It is alleged that on March 26, 2016, "for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification" he "intentionally communicated" with a child under 16, "the communication being sexual".

During yesterday's preliminary enquiry - the legal step to send a case to the Crown Court - a prosecutor said that on the basis of the papers before the court she believed there was a case to answer.

Defence solicitor Denise Gillan said she had no contrary submissions and District Judge Liam McNally held there was a case to answer.

McGrory was released on continuing bail to appear at Antrim Crown Court in November.
