Accused 'waving sword in the street'

A court has heard how police had to respond to a call that a man was waving a sword about in the middle of a street.

Anthony McGuigan (50), of Coolessan Walk in Limavady, appeared in court charged with possessing a sword on September 24.

When they arrived at Coolessan Walk, officers said they saw McGuigan but no sword. It was then found in a search of his home, according to police.

McGuigan was arrested and released on bail on condition he stay out of Coolessan Walk.

Limavady Magistrates Court heard that on October 4 police received reports he was in the area, he was then found in his home and arrested.

A defence solicitor said McGuigan accepted he had broken his bail conditions but added that he went to the house as he believed it had been broken into.

Judge Noel Dunlop released McGuigan on £400 bail on condition he observe a curfew and wears an electronic tag.
