Aiken only name in hat for UUP role
Only one person has put themselves forward to be the next leader of the Ulster Unionists.
Steve Aiken was the only candidate at close of nominations yesterday at 4pm.
His name will now go forward to a party extraordinary general meeting on November 9 for ratification.
Current leader Robin Swann announced earlier this month that he will stand down in February after more than two years at the helm.
The North Antrim MLA, who has two children, said he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Mr Aiken is backed by Doug Beattie, who had been seen as a potential contender, but ruled himself out of the running recently.
