Alcohol seized in Armagh teen party bus raids

Police seized 131 bottles of beer, wine and spirits from buses carrying teenagers to a party following a formal.

The haul was discovered during searches of seven buses carrying mostly underage teens in Keady, Co Armagh.

The alcohol was seized in the early hours of Saturday and disposed of.

Inspector Kieran Quinn said: "The vast majority of passengers were under 18 years of age and we confiscated a large quantity of alcohol."

The officer said police believed the young people on the buses were heading "to an after-formal party, possibly across the border".

Inspector Quinn urged parents to ensure children under the age of 18 are not drinking alcohol when socialising He said police would be liaising with schools in the Co Armagh area, licensed premises and transport companies to ensure they were aware of underage drinking.

The officer added: "We do not want to ruin anyone's night out but where offences are detected we have a duty to take action."
