A-level results: All smiles in north west as happy students celebrate results
Students arriving for their A-level results at Foyle College in Londonderry were already in a jubilant mood having checked their grades online - but still wanted to share their joy with friends.
Matthew Austin (19) studied maths, biology and geography and achieved an A grade in all three. He has been accepted to Queen's University in Belfast to study accountancy.
He said: "I actually can't wait to get away and start something I am passionate about and see where it goes."
Erika McClelland (18) will also be packing her bags for Queen's.
She said: "I studied chemistry, maths and biology and got two A* and an A, so I could not be any happier. I'm going to study chemical engineering, which I know is not a subject a lot of girls follow, but chemistry and maths are my best subjects so it seemed like a logical option. There are loads of career options at the end of it."
At Oakgrove Integrated College students arriving for their result were equally excited.
Jack Bonner (19) is planning a career in the film industry. He said: "I studied moving image art, applied IT and English literature and my grades were B, C and D. I am a bit disappointed with my English literature mark, but I have been accepted to Salford University to study film production."
Naomi Ferguson (19) has been accepted to the North West College in Derry after studying art, ICT and English literature. She said: "I am delighted with my results. I got an A, B and a C.
"I am doing my foundation degree in art and design at the North West College for the first year and then I'll go to Manchester to do art and design, and ceramics.
"Being organised was the key for me, and putting in the hours of graft. I'm going to stay at home this year, because I wasn't ready to move away, but I've been accepted to Manchester next year when I think I will be more ready for it then.
"I'm the last of five in our house to go to university and I didn't want to be the only one who didn't go to university, but I wasn't under any pressure from that."
