Alleged burglar 'coerced man to wear electronic tag'
An alleged burglar "coerced" a vulnerable man into wearing his electronic tag, the High Court heard.
Police discovered the device was refitted to the wrong person. Details emerged as Henry Hayes (20) was readmitted to bail.
Hayes, with an address at Glencairn Street, Belfast, was bailed on charges connected to a raid on a cash and carry in Larne last October, subject to being electronically monitored. But he was returned to custody early this year.
Yesterday prosecution barrister Conor Maguire said the security firm overseeing the device called to refit it. It was claimed that a man there wrongly identified himself as being Hayes.
"He is believed by police to be a vulnerable adult and was coerced by the applicant into using his identity," added Mr Maguire.
Hayes has since been further charged with causing £250 worth of damage to the original device.
Mr Justice Horner granted bail again.
