Andrea’s dream day as she weds at Dark Hedges

By Staff Reporter

The iconic Dark Hedges made a fitting setting yesterday for a dream wedding, as inspirational Coleraine mum Andrea McAleese and fiance Tommy McConaghey tied the knot in style.

Andrea - whose three-year-old daughter Roma died in a road accident eight years ago - was hailed as a hero after dedicating her life to helping parents who had lost a child.

Hairdresser Andrea also raised £82,000 to construct the Angel of Hope memorial garden in Coleraine.

The garden offers a dignified space for bereaved families to remember and reflect on lost lives.

Earlier this year, Andrea received the Overcoming Adversity award at the Sunday Life Spirit of Northern Ireland awards event.

Yesterday's intimate ceremony at Gracehill House, close to the Dark Hedges, was attended by 70 friends and family.

And special memorial candles bearing a picture of Roma were lit during the ceremony.
