Anne in first for Clonard Novena

By Chris McCullough

A woman will take to the altar next month during the annual Clonard Novena in west Belfast as its first ever female resident preacher.

Originally from Newfoundland in Canada, Anne Walsh will take part in this year's nine-day festival as one of four resident preachers.

The novena runs from June 14 to 22 with the theme 'Home isn't a place, it's you and me'.

Anne has 30 years' experience with the Redemptorist lay community and has worked as a catechist and director of adult faith formation at parish, school board and diocesan levels.

She is also executive assistant to the Archbishop of St John's in Newfoundland and a contributor to televised devotions in honour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Canada.

The three other preachers taking part are Fr Michael Kelleher, Fr Brendan Kelly and Fr Michael Brehl, who is the superior general of the Redemptorists worldwide.
