The Lord Mayor of Belfast has hailed the work of community groups in the Village area after she launched an anti-racism strategy there last week.

The community relations strategy was developed by community workers and residents after the disturbances in March 2009 surrounding the Northern Ireland verses Poland football match.

On officially launching the strategy last week, the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Naomi Long , said: “It is important that entire communities are not painted with the racist brush and it is essential that we acknowledge the good work being done on the ground in areas like the Village.”
