A Co Antrim man who admitted attempted sexual communication with a child has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.

Richard Nevin (51) of Ballyclogh Road, Bushmills, was at Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to the one charge he faced.

The charge is that between September 27, 2019 and October 3 last year for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, Nevin intentionally attempted to communicate with a person under 16 years.

No other details regarding the background to the case were given to the court.

A prosecutor said there would be an application for a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

District Judge Peter King told the defendant the exact length of the period he will be on the Sex Offenders' Register will also be determined at a later court.

The case was adjourned to April for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
