Appeal after Derry 'reckless' dumper truck rampage

Consequences could have been serious, say police

Police are appealing for information after a truck went on a rampage through parts of Londonderry.

The vehicle was stolen from a building site in the Skeoge Road area of the city on Tuesday night.

At around 8.30pm, two men were seen driving the dumper truck through local housing estates including Ederowen Park, Glendale Park and Rossnagalliagh.

Damage was caused to lamp posts and other street property. The truck was recovered later.

"This was reckless behaviour, which could have had serious consequences," said Inspector Ray Wilson.

“We are appealing to anyone who can help us identify the males driving the vehicle, or who was in the area at the time and witnessed the vehicle being driven."

Police can be contacted on 101 or information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
