Appeal after man with knife robs Belfast shop

By Matthew Symington

A man wielding a butcher's knife robbed a shop on the Woodstock Road in east Belfast on Sunday night.

The robber went into Russell's Shop 4 You near the corner of Woodstock Road and Willowfield Street at around 9.30pm and threatened staff before stealing what was described by a local councillor as a “paltry sum”. He then made off towards the Cregagh Road.

DUP councillor for Pottinger, Gavin Robinson, said of the incident: “Whenever I was at university I went through the same kind of robbery so I know how harrowing an experience it is. I just hope that anyone with information will give it to the police.

“I understand that it was a paltry sum of money that was stolen. Actions like this shouldn't be happening in this community.”

The robber was described as being about 6ft tall and was wearing an orange hooded top with the hood pulled up. Police have appealed for witnesses.
