Appeal for man seen fleeing scene of Newtownards arson attack

Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was seen running away from a house targeted in an arson attack.

The attack took place on a flat on Greenwell Street in Newtownards on Wednesday.

It was reported that shortly after 10pm a fire was started at the front door of the property.

Police and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended and the fire was extinguished.

Damage was caused to the front door of the flat as a result of the incident.

The 26-year-old male occupant escaped from the property and was not injured during the incident. A male was seen running away from the property following the incident.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about this incident to contact detectives at Bangor on 101 quoting reference number 1538 23/05/18.
