Police have appealed for witnesses after the reported rape and attempted murder of a woman in Londonderry in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to the incident and appeared in court yesterday.

Police are asking members of the public who saw a woman dressed in a green coat with fur trim on the hood, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes on the legs and white trainers, in the Northland Road or Springtown Road areas in the early hours of Sunday morning, to contact them.

Detective Constable Curry urged witnesses to come forward.

“If anyone can recall seeing this female and can assist us with our enquiries they should contact detectives in Larne on 101 quoting reference number 242 07/04/19,” he said.
