Appeal for witnesses after driver left in critical condition in Newry crash

Police in Newry are appealing for information about a serious road collision earlier this month.

The incident happened on Tuesday July 18 on the A1 carriageway to the north of the town near to the Sheepbridge complex just before 12.30pm.

Speaking about the incident, Inspector Denise Graham said: "A blue Toyota Rav 4 car, which had been travelling northbound, crashed through the central reservation, ending in the southbound carriageway."

The driver, a man in his fifties, remains in hospital in critical condition.

Following the crash the A1 was closed for a number of hours in both directions.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to contact police in Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101 quoting the reference 512 with the date 18/07/2017.
