Appeal for witnesses to crash that left woman with serious head injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman suffered serious head injuries in a one-vehicle collision in Newcastle.

Around 2.30am on Sunday, July 8, the 20-year-old woman sustained serious head injuries on the Castlewellan Road.

The woman injured in the collision was a pedestrian.

She remains in a critical condition in hospital and police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.

"All parties involved in the collision have been working with us and supporting our enquiries however we believe there were a number of people in the area that night who witnessed the collision who have yet to come forward," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"We are appealing to anyone who was there that night and witnessed the collision or anyone who has information that could help to contact us as soon as possible.

"The family of the injured female are also asking anyone that can help with the investigation to talk to us so that they can get answers. Phone us on 101, quoting ref: 318 08/07/18."
