Archie Tafts funeral: Tearful farewell to toddler killed by falling chest

By Chris McCullough

The Co Antrim toddler who died as a result of a tragic accident was laid to rest yesterday.

Family and friends gathered at Ballyweaney Presbyterian Church for the funeral of little Archie Tafts, from Cloughmills, who was only two years old.

The child died when a chest of drawers fell on him in the family home while he was being looked after by a friend.

Following the accident, Archie was taken to the Antrim Area Hospital but later passed away.

He will be fondly remembered by his parents Nicola and Phillip, his six-year-old brother Jack and the wider family circle.

His mother and father had only recently got engaged.

Little Archie was described as a "lovely smiley wee fella" as hundreds of tributes poured in for the youngster on social media.

A statement from the PSNI issued on behalf of the heartbroken family said they had "suffered a tremendous loss" and requested privacy for relatives to grieve.
