Ardvarna neighbours the best?

Alliance Councillor Laura McNamee has nominated Ardvarna Crescent for the Making The Difference Best Street Award with the Belfast Telegraph.

She praised the community spirit in the street where residents had rallied round to help those who were effectively trapped in their homes by the present icy conditions.

Cllr Laura McNamee said she had worked in the East Belfast Alliance office for the last three years and that one of the first enquiries she received was from a resident who was concerned about the danger of speeding cars on the Circular Road for older neighbours and children walking to school.

“The resident in question did not necessarily want traffic calming measures installed themselves, but purely for the benefit and improved road safety for their neighbours,” said Ms McNamee.

“Most recently, I have been contacted by residents in relation to the treacherous conditions of the icy footpaths and roads in Ardvarna, again, with particular regard for the more vulnerable residents who were effectively trapped within their homes. Having witnessed how the residents rallied round to help each other out, I can see that there is an excellent sense of community spirit and that the residents of Ardvarna Crescent are dedicated to helping one another and making improvements to the neighbourhood to be enjoyed by everyone.”
