The people of Belfast and beyond have a free online resource at their fingertips that could reveal fascinating details about their families in the townlands and old parishes of 1800s Belfast.
After painstaking research, the Belfast Hills Partnership has produced a definitive list of the names of families living in the Belfast Hills in the 1840s.
Partnership Manager Dr Jim Bradley was joined by Belfast Lord Mayor Pat Convery to launch the link on www.belfasthills.org — part of a month-long photographic exhibition showcasing the beauty of the Belfast Hills.
Jim Bradley urged people to use the newly compiled list to research their family tree. “Get online and see if your roots are firmly planted in the Belfast Hills. If you do find something just let us know. The more history we collect, the more fascinating the Belfast Hills will be revealed to be.”
