Tributes have been paid to a Co Armagh teenager following his sudden death yesterday afternoon.

Named locally as Shane Richardson, the 16-year-old was found unconscious in his family home at Brownstown Road in Portadown.

Paramedics were called to the scene just after 1pm.

He was rushed to nearby Craigavon Area Hospital, however, attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful.

The family were said to be deeply shocked by the sudden death.

DUP Assembly Member Jonny Buckley said the whole town would rally around the family at such a devastating time.

"It is deeply shocking," he said.

"My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

The Richardson family are well-known and respected in the town, and news of the death sent shockwaves through the entire community.

"Today will be a dark day for the community of Portadown as it mourns the loss of yet another young life," Mr Buckley added.

"The people of Portadown will rally as they always do, they will be there for this family in what is such a sad and devastating time for them."

Tributes flowed on social media for the popular teenager, with many shocked at the news.

"Very sad to hear the sudden death of a good friend taken so soon," said one friend.

Another friend spoke of how they laughed and joked just hours earlier.

"You're going to be greatly missed by many and I've lost one of my best friends... rest easy and party hard."

Another spoke of how she grew up with Shane.

"I'm going to miss you, your big bake and your stupid banter.

"God only takes the best and he chose you, sleep tight."

Portadown councillor Louise Templeton said she was "devastated" for the family and friends of the teenager.

Police are investigating the circumstances and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
