Armed gang imprisons family in bathroom

By Staff Reporter

Three young children and their mother were left badly shaken after their Co Down house was ransacked by an armed gang who imprisoned them in their own bathroom, police have said.

It was reported that three men entered the Ribadoo Road house near Ballyward at around 7.30pm on Monday armed with two suspected firearms and a hammer. The men threatened the family and demanded money.

The house was ransacked by the trio, who then locked the family in the bathroom before making off in their grey Audi A4.

Two of the men were described as being around 6ft tall and of slim build while the third man was around 5ft 8ins tall and stocky. They wore masks, gloves and high-visibility tops.

The woman and children were not physically injured as a result of the incident, but were left badly shaken, the PSNI said.

Detectives in Downpatrick have appealed for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
