Armed gang put family through terrorising ordeal in west Belfast break-in

An armed gang has put a family through a terrifying ordeal during a robbery in west Belfast.

The masked gang entered the house on Lagmore Drive on Monday evening carrying what appeared to be a gun.

Sinn Fein councillor Danny Baker said those who had carried out the break-in were "dangerous and despicable" and should be taken off the streets.

“Masked men, carrying what appeared to be a gun, burst into a house in Lagmore Drive tonight and put a family through a horrific ordeal," he said.

“They ransacked the house and made threats against members of the family.

“The family have been left deeply traumatised by this terrible ordeal.

“The thieves stole the family car before making off and abandoning it nearby.

“Neighbours and the community have rallied round the family.

“Local people are shocked and angry that a family has been terrorised in this way especially when we are in the month of the festive season

“I would appeal to anyone with any information on those responsible for this awful crime to bring it forward to the police.”

Reacting to the break-in, People Before Profit councillor Matt Collins said: "I would say this is a disgraceful act and my thoughts are with the family and all the residents who have gone through this ordeal.

"The shamefulness of the attack is particularly glaring at this time of year."
