Armed robbery in St George’s Market area of Belfast

An armed man has robbed a food outlet in the St George’s Market area of the city at around 9am on Saturday morning.

Police in Belfast are appealing for information following the armed robbery.

Detective Sergeant Moffett said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident.

"We received a report that a man, described as being about 5’ 11” in height, of a medium, stocky build and wearing a dark hoodie, coat and woollen hat entered the shop, carrying what appeared to be a firearm. He made off with sum of money from the till.

"A female member of staff was left distressed by the incident but did not require hospital treatment.

"f you have any information that could help our investigation, please get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 374 of 10/6/17.

"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
