Arrests after Derry car hijacking

Police have arrested two men and a woman following a car hijacking in the Waterside area of Londonderry in the early hours of Monday morning.

Shortly before 3.30am a car was stopped by a number of people in the Fountain Hill area of the city.

The driver, a man in his 20s, put his window down and his car keys were stolen.

He was then assaulted, having several of his possessions stolen before the car was taken.

The car was later involved in a one vehicle crash in the Rosswater area.

The three people, two men aged 29 and 24, and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested later and are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Adair appealed for information saying: "The driver of the car is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.”

Anyone who knows anything about this incident should contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on the non emergency number 101.
