Arrests after 'disturbing video' of alleged schoolboy assault posted on social media

Two juveniles have been arrested after a "disturbing video" of an apparent assault on a schoolboy was posted on social media.

Police said the reported attack happened at Brownlow Integrated College, in Craigavon and was posted on social media on Tuesday evening.

Chief Superintendent Jon Burrows vowed the PSNI would carry out a "proactive and thorough" investigation.

He described the video as "disturbing".

Following the arrests he added: "I am grateful for their swift and proactive response."

Police also thanked those who flagged up the video to them.

Nicola Stevenson, principal of Brownlow Integrated College commented: “The school has been made aware of an incident that occurred yesterday which is the subject to an ongoing investigation by the PSNI and I am therefore unable to provide a comment at this time. 

"However, I would like to reassure parents that the school operates a zero tolerance policy in relation to any form of bullying.  Brownlow Integrated College is committed to providing a safe and inclusive place for all children.”

The Education Authority responded: "The Education Authority is unable to comment at this time due to an ongoing police investigation. EA will continue to provide appropriate support and guidance to Brownlow Integrated College."
