Arrests after riots

Police investigating disorder in South and East Belfast on July 13 and 14 arrested three males — two in their 20s and one aged 15 — in the Paxton Street area last week.

Two are continuing to assist police with their enquiries.

The 15-year-old male has been charged to Belfast Youth Court and is expected to appear on Friday, July 30.

Police say the two other men are continuing to assist them with their enquiries.

In addition, a man in his 20s was arrested on July 14 in connection with disorder in south and east Belfast on Tuesday, July 13. He has been charged with riotous behavior and with throwing a petrol bomb.

Lord mayor Pat Convery has called for police, statutory agencies and community groups to work together to avoid a repetition of the Twelfth rioting and reach young people “before they become cannon fodder again”.
