Arson attacks on vehicles could be linked, say police

Three vehicles parked in a Co Down town were torched by arsonists in the early hours of New Year's Day.

A Chrysler Grand Voyager in Holywood's East Link was destroyed after the front windscreen was smashed and the interior set alight.

A Ford Transit parked in Abbey Ring was gutted, and scorch damage was caused to a Vauxhall Insignia parked in Priory End after an attempt to set it on fire. The incidents are believed to have occurred between 3.15am and 4am.

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne said the incidents "shocked the local community".

Police investigating a link between the incidents are appealing for anyone with any information to contact detectives in Bangor on 101 quoting reference number 494 of 01/01/17.
