Arson bid at Masonic hall probed

Police are investigating an attempted arson attack at Blaris Masonic Hall in Lisburn.

The hall was vandalised early on Thursday, July 19, before several items were doused in petrol and set on fire.

A local postman saw smoke and reported it to the police and fire service.

A spokesman for the Freemasons said that a Bible was stolen and described the piling up of regalia by intruders, as having “sectarian undertones”.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Lisburn Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, people can get in touch anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
