Teenage boy in court over east Belfast violence

A teenager was due to appear before court today over disorderly behaviour in east Belfast.
Police seized more than 350 glass bottles and six tins of paint over the weekend following sporadic violence.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested in Mountforde Court, Short Strand, at about 10pm on Sunday.
He was charged with criminal damage and disorderly behaviour.
Chief Inspector David Moore, Area Commander for East Belfast said: "A dedicated team is trawling CCTV footage from the various nights of disorder and where identifications are made, these will be followed by arrests.
"I am pleased to say that it was relatively calm over the weekend. Additional police were in the area, which has had an impact – but obviously this is at a cost to other areas of policing."
Last week under-siege residents on both sides of the bitter sectarian interface urged police to do more to end attacks on their homes.
It followed four nights of youth violence on the streets of east Belfast, when two police officers were injured and substantial damage caused to properties.
