Assault accused failed to attend court

By Staff Reporter

A woman described in court as "a prolific offender" who is accused of public order charges at Belsonic Music Festival, has been arrested after twice failing to turn up at court in Belfast.

Shannon Johnston (20) of Tulach Way, Magherafelt is accused of disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police officer at the music festival which took place on the Ormeau Embankment on June 30.

Johnston was ordered to appear before Laganside Magistrates Court in July and on failing to appear was given a second opportunity to turn up on July 28 but failed to do so.

She was arrested and brought to Dungannon Magistrates Court yesterday. Whilst police did not formally object to bail District Judge John Meehan noted Johnston is "a prolific offender".

However, he agreed to release her on bail providing a cash surety was put forward.

He also banned her from consuming alcohol in public and ordered her to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court later this month.
