Assault accused released on bail

A judge has released a man on bail after he allegedly assaulted his partner at her home.

Noel Anthony Hutchinson (46) from De Glin Park in Claudy is alleged to have assaulted his partner in her Sheraton Park home in Londonderry on Monday night.

He was arrested following the alleged incident and appeared in court in Derry yesterday morning.

A policeman told the court officers responded to a call from the complainant and arrested the defendant at her home. Their 14-month-old baby daughter was in the house at the time.

He said he was opposed to the defendant being granted bail because of his history of domestic violence and because he believed there was a real risk of the defendant both re-offending and of interfering with the complainant.

District Judge Barney McElholm released the defendant on bail of £500 to appear in court again on May 4.

As part of his bail conditions he is not allowed any contact with his partner nor is he |allowed to enter within the 30mph zone around Derry.
