Assault rifle and ammunition found in Belfast dissident police operation

FOUR men are being questioned by police following their arrest in west Belfast in connection with dissident terrorist activity.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch detained the four men and recovered a firearm and ammunition last night.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on the Grosvenor Road after a vehicle was stopped.

An assault rifle and ammunition were recovered and are currently being examined by forensics experts.

In a follow-up operation three men aged 27, 29 and 46 were arrested in the Springfield Road area.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes from Serious Crime branch said: “All four suspects are being questioned in the Serious Crime suite at Antrim police station. Police inquiries are continuing.”
