Assault teenager told he faces jail

An 18-year-old Limavady man who admitted a single punch attack on a stranger which resulted in the victim sustaining an orbital fracture of his left eye socket, has been told by a judge that he's going to jail.

Mark Harry Deehan from Glenview Drive pleaded guilty to what Judge Philip Babington described as "a very serious stranger attack" in Linenhall Street in the town.

A prosecution barrister told the crown court in Derry that Deehan punched his 21-year-old victim in an unprovoked attack.

The victim fell heavily face first against shop shutters and was knocked unconscious. He subsequently underwent surgery which involved having a metal plate inserted around his left eye socket and operations to straighten his broken nose.

Judge Babington adjourned sentencing until today and told Deehan "you may expect a custodial sentence".
