A man has been arrested by detectives investigating an attempt to steal a vehicle in south Belfast on Friday.

The alleged incident in Ireton Street was dramatically captured on camera and posted on Twitter, where it was watched by thousands.

It shows two men apparently trying to steal a car while other people watch on.

The car's owner and bystanders intervene and the pair flee the scene on foot after.

The PSNI said it arrested a man following a number of searches in Crumlin yesterday.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, taking and driving away and possession of an offensive weapon, and was taken into custody for questioning.

"The investigation is continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1929 06/08/19," a PSNI spokesman said.
