Baby giant anteater steps into the limelight at zoo

By Claire Williamson

Meet one of Belfast Zoo's latest arrivals, who can now be spotted out and about.

The giant anteater was born on November 2 last year, but for the 12 months of life it hitches a ride on the mother's back, which makes it hard to determine whether it is male or female.

The giant anteater is an endangered South American mammal.

The baby was born to parents Pancho and Kara and is yet to be named. Belfast Zoo is home to the only giant anteaters in Ireland.
