A very young baby was in a Coleraine house that was smashed up by a gang early yesterday morning, police have said.

A 47-year-old man was arrested after police said a group of men attacked the house, smashing windows and eventually forcing their way into the property.

He has since been released on bail pending further police inquiries.

Two teenagers - a boy and girl - and a woman in her 40s were also in the house when up to five men attacked the Loughanhill Park property at around 1.20am.

Some damage was caused to the internal living room door before the men made off. The arrested man was detained an hour later on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Detective Inspector Alan Pyper said: "I am keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information."

Detectives can be contacted on 101 or Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
