Bail for man charged with threat to kill ex-lover

A Londonderry man allegedly warned his former partner he would “cut her throat” after she refused to give him money, a court has heard.

Charles O'Donnell (40), of Market Street, was charged with assaulting the woman and making threats to kill against her on October 15.

A police officer told Derry Magistrates Court yesterday that the alleged victim contacted them to say her former partner had demanded money. When she refused, he made the threats against her, the court was told.

She also claimed O’Donnell told her if he was arrested for this he would “come back and kill her”.

He then threw a child's toy and a plastic bottle at her.

The court was told O'Donnell had 25 previous convictions. Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court his client was denying the offences.

O'Donnell was granted bail on condition he has no contact with the alleged victim. He will appear again on November 17.
