Ballycastle coast rescue woman is airlifted to Coleraine hospital
A young woman was airlifted to hospital after a major search and rescue operation on the north Antrim coast.
Police, the Coastguard and a helicopter were all sent to the incident near Ballycastle in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The alert was sparked after reports were received of a person in distress. The woman (21) had gone missing in the area and there were concerns for her safety.
Police were contacted at around 2am and were joined by the Portrush lifeboat and the Coastguard.
An Irish Coastguard helicopter was dispatched to the scene from Dublin.
The woman was rescued from undergrowth in the Churchfield Road area of the town and airlifted to Coleraine hospital for treatment.
She was described as being in a stable condition by a PSNI spokesman.
