Ballycastle ‘numb with grief’ as Sinead Stewart is laid to rest
Hundreds of people gathered in Ballycastle on Saturday morning to lay to rest young mother Sinead Stewart, who died in a tragic incident at her Co Antrim home.
Mrs Stewart (27), who was four months pregnant, passed away at her home in the seaside town on Tuesday.
The mother-of-one died in a tragic accident during a fire at her house. Despite the emergency services, including an air ambulance, attending the incident, she died at the scene.
A requiem mass took place at St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s Church in Ballycastle on Saturday, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs Stewart married her husband Alistair in 2015, and the couple have a young daughter, Saoirse.
Ballycastle Independent councillor Padraig McShane said the local community was “stunned and numb with grief” at the young mum’s passing.
He said: “It would appear that a number of unfortunate factors have conspired to end this young lady’s life.
“On behalf of the local community, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.”
