Ballyclare RFC shock at teen's sudden death

Ballyclare Rugby Club expressed its shock and sadness at the sudden death of one of its young players.

Jim McKernon (17) and from the Co Antrim town passed away on Wednesday.

He was described as a talented player.

Speaking to the Newtownabbey Times Alan Hamilton from the club said: “Jim was proud to wear the Ballyclare Rugby Club shirt and we remember his talent, courage and love for the game. He never stood back. He never gave ground.

“The youth team players and coaches are devastated by his passing. His team mates have many memories to look back on with Jim, they will be cherished forever. Sadly missed on and off the pitch, but never forgotten.”

There were many messages of condolence made on social media.

Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

The funeral takes place from his home on Saturday and afterwards to Ballyclare Cemetery.
