Ballygawley crash: Appeal for owner of black VW van to contact police after fatal collision on Omagh Road

Police investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision on the Omagh Road in Ballygawley last Thursday are appealing for the driver of a black Volkswagen Transporter van to contact them.

One man died after the two-vehicle crash in Co Tyrone.

Investigating officer, Constable Peter Grimes said, "We believe the male driver of the black Volkswagen van stopped at the scene and administered first aid to the injured passenger in the Toyota Hilux which had been involved in the collision.

"We would like to speak with this man as we believe he may have some information which could be of assistance to our investigation of this tragic collision. We would ask him, or anyone with any information, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at Sprucefield on 101.”

The crash involved a white Toyota and a silver Volkswagen and happened on the Omagh Road in Ballygawley just before 7pm on Thursday.

Police named the victim as Kieran McSorley, 50, who was from the Omagh area. He had been a front- seat passenger in one of the cars.

Three other people were also hurt but the extent of their injuries is not known.

The road was closed as police carried out their investigations but re-opened at about 3am on Friday.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward on 101.
