Ballymena drink driver who crashed into van gets two-year ban

A Co Antrim drink driver who was more than twice the legal limit when he caused an 80mph crash has been banned for two years and fined £600.

A car driven by Marcin Hojda (35), of Warden Square, Ballymena, "fish-tailed at speeds between 80-90mph" before crossing the Lisnevenagh Road's central reservation and crashing into a van, Antrim Magistrates Court heard. It happened just after 9.30am on October 14.

Hojda was breathalysed and gave a reading of 73mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Yesterday he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
