A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Ballymena.

Kyle Joseph Rainey, of Rossdale in the Tullygarley area of Ballymena, appeared at the town's magistrates' court on Thursday.

A police officer told the court she believed she could connect the accused to the stabbing, whch happened in Waveney Road, Ballymena on October 29 this year.

The victim, Alan Hunter (30), was discovered injured in a flat and was taken to hospital.

Defence barrister Aaron Thompson said there was no application for bail as the accused is due back at the same court next week in connection with deferred sentences for unrelated matters.

Mr Thompson said the defendant denies the attempted murder charge and is "very keen to protest his innocence".

The defence barrister said there is an allegation of a stabbing but the defendant denies that.
