Ballymena to host RIR parade

Royal Irish soldiers returning from Afghanistan will be welcomed home tonight with a parade in Ballymena.

The Co Antrim town will host a warm welcome to servicemen and women returning from a tour of the war-torn country.

Around 200 troops are expected to take part in the parade, which will see them set off from The Braid at 8pm. They will then make their way down Mill Street on to Wellington Street, where the official salute will take place.

They will finish outside The Braid, where a civic reception hosted by Ballymena Borough Council will take place.

Those wishing to attend are advised to gather along the parade route from 7pm. On-street parking will be limited and roads will be closed to traffic from approximately 6.30pm.
