Basil McAfee murder: Police release CCTV images of last moments before he was stabbed to death

Police have released CCTV images showing the last moments of Basil McAfee who was stabbed to death in a frenzied attack in north Belfast just before Christmas.

Mr McAfee (50) was found by his mother at his home in Henderson Avenue off the Cavehill Road on Friday 20 December.

He had been stabbed several times.

His funeral took place in north Belfast earlier this week.

Detectives released CCTV images of the last sighting of him alive, at an off-licence on the Cavehill Road.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said: "Basil suffered a violent death. I believe he was beaten about the head with a sharp implement and then stabbed.

"This was a savage, frenzied attack. A number of items were taken from the house.

"Whoever did this is a danger to others in the community while still at large."

Police believe the victim was with other people in the off-licence on the afternoon of Thursday December 19, but so far they have not come forward.

Mr McAfee was found dead the next day.

Officers appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
