'Battle of the bling' as Belfast mayor hosts Team NI
It was a homecoming fit for our Commonwealth Games heroes as Belfast's Lord Mayor hosted Team NI in a "battle of the bling".
Our victorious medal-winners were guests of honour with Nichola Mallon at a special reception at Belfast City Hall yesterday afternoon.
The first citizen paid tribute to the dedication of the team, which performed brilliantly at the Glasgow Games this month.
Team NI brought home a total of 12 medals – two gold, three silver and seven bronze – in what was our second-biggest ever medal tally at the Games.
Ms Mallon said our sportsmen and women were "inspirational role models" and described how it was an honour to host the reception.
The mayor also told her Twitter followers there was a "battle of the bling" going on at the ceremony, where she was sporting her official mayoral chains and the athletes, including boxers Paddy Barnes and Mick Conlan, were proudly displaying their medals.
