BBC's Line of Duty stars resume duty in Belfast

By Luke Barnes

Filming is under way for the new season of the BBC's hit police drama Line of Duty.

The gritty procedural has become the Beeb's best-performing drama in a decade since its premiere in 2012.

The show stars Co Fermanagh actor Adrian Dunbar, as well as Martin Compston and Vicky McClure.

Dunbar leads the anti-corruption police unit AC-12 in the hot programme.

This season will also feature Hollywood star Thandie Newton as the show's main antagonist. Newton, who won a Bafta for her role in the Oscar-winning film Crash, will play DCI Roz Huntley.

She will be "in the thick of a career-defining case" and "under intense pressure to catch the culprit and prove herself", according to the BBC. Newton said: "I watched the last three seasons of Line of Duty with breathless admiration for its creators. I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining them now."

Martin Compston added: "I'm delighted to be heading back to Belfast with the rest of the AC-12 cast and I'm looking forward to once again trying to do justice to the fantastic scripts Jed Mercurio has written."
