Belfast bookmakers held up in attempted armed robbery

A Belfast bookmakers was held up in an attempted armed robbery on Tuesday.

It happened at the Falls Road business at around 5.30pm.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: "A man armed with a suspected firearm entered a bookmakers in the area. He is believed to have demanded money from two members of staff inside the premises, but left empty handed.

"Both the male and female staff members were left badly shaken, but not injured following the incident.

“The male is described as being 5”10 in height, wearing a dark coloured hooded top with a white Nike log on the front. He was wearing a scarf around his face and with his hood up during the incident.

"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1266 31/12/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
