Belfast cafe offers free meals to those in need on Christmas Day

Embracing the spirit of Christmas, a cafe in the centre of Belfast has opened its doors and offered a free meal to those in need.

Common Grounds cafe on Belfast's University Avenue has been serving up to anyone down on their luck or home alone, and is in its eleventh year.

The social enterprise cafe, working together with City Church Belfast, has put on a three-course Christmas dinner of turkey (with a halal option), stuffing, cooked ham, and roast potatoes.

Both staff and volunteers have taken part in the Christmas Day offering.

The cafe first invited the public to join it in 2007, and since then has served up an estimated 2,500 slices of turkey, 5,000 roast potatoes, and 6,000 Brussels sprouts.
