A carer from Belfast has been charged with a number of offences in relation to stealing money from a pensioner who was found dead in her apartment.

Robert Sharkey (23) of Larkspur Rise has also been charged with preventing the lawful burial of a corpse.

The charges relate to the finding of the body of Marie Conlon (68) two years after she died.

Ms Conlon was found dead in the bedroom of her Larkspur Rise apartment earlier this year.

At the time her body was discovered, the PSNI said they believed she may have been dead for two years before her body was discovered.

Appearing before Belfast Magistrate's Court this morning (Monday), Mr Sharkey was charged with five offences which include trespassing, stealing cash and a bank card.

The court heard he was a carer.

He was released on bail and will next appear in court on December 18.
